10 years ago, Slovak contemporary composer Patrik Korinok released his debut album “Silene Stenophylla” under the pseudonym “I am planet”. It was followed by 3 more studio albums and several singles over the course of the decade.
Today, after ten years, he is preparing for the first time under his own name and on a new label a new EP – Rogue Wave, which he wrote for a string orchestra. As a trailer for this work, which is also going to be released on 12″ vinyl in an unusual way (due to the shorter running time), Patrik Korinok released a documentary film about its creation.
“I often have trouble talking about my music, what’s behind it, and what my feelings are about artistic creation. That’s why I accepted music as my means of expression, I can express through it things that cannot be verbalized.” says Patrik KorinokHowever, in this case it is a little different. A 17-minute documentary mapping the recording process was created about the work
with a 30-member orchestra and especially the thought processes of the music author.
“The original idea was to make a music video of each song, without narration. However, Braňo (the director of the film) convinced me that it would be more telling to conceive it in a documentary style, to bring something extra to the viewer. In the end, I’ve said enough about the record, for my standards. I think that the document completes a broader picture of the work, as I relatively specifically name the connections that were behind its creation.”
The film was directed by Braňo Gotthardt, the recording took place at the National Theater in Košice. The 30-member orchestra of the Košice National Theater Opera played. Bence Fazekas conducted, Eduard Plachetka was the concertmaster.
